Post Traumatic Urbanism Press Release

Myself and nine other UTS students have recently returned from a research trip stopping in Berlin, Beirut and London. The trip was to investigate the site for our project this semester, which is reclaimed land north of the Beirut Central District as shown in the image below. More posts detailing how our project is developing out of this research will follow soon.

UTS teams up with the AA to discuss Infrastructural Projects

University of Technology students and Lecturers recently visited the Architectural Association in London to present the findings of the Post Traumatic Urbanism Studio, running in its second year it UTS. Myself and Colleague Erik Escalante presented our project for an extension of the city of Beirut which we are currently completing.

Exquisite Bodies at the Welcome Collection in London was a must see for us after being involved in the Disciplinary Transformations Studio in Autumn 09.

Anish Kapoor at the Royal Academy of Arts displays quite literally an explosion of material and form.

SANAA Serpentine Pavilion

SANAA’s Serpentine Pavilion is seriously cool. The camouflaged structure sneaks up on you as you approach. Once under the thin horizontal plane the polished warped underside reflects the movement of people and the surroundings in a spectacular way. The roof sits atop thin metal columns and undulates from waist height to a couple of stories. The material and formal qualities create nuanced spatial effects contributing to an architecture which is simple, but by no means simplistic.

Work done for the Computational Media Studio as well as the Digital Masterclass are detailed in the latest DAB DOC, as shown below! The book is edited by David Burns and co-designed by Nadia Wagner and is available now. Also featuring is the fun had at Iron Architect with Anthony, Ben, David, Adam, Amanda, Josh, Jono and I. With three hours to rethink Sydney’s transit systems there was an outburst of networks and mini towers, blue foam and blue tape…
